The Defence budget is an all-time low in India. The parliamentary standing committee has asked for at least 2.5 per cent of GDP. The budget of 2018-19 has been 1,48 per cent of GDP. The budget for the year 2019-20 is 1.44 per cent of GDP. To say the OROP has taken a large portion of the budget is an erroneous conclusion. The annual cost for a truncated OROP sanctioned by the government is only ₹ 7500 crores.

With the meagre budget allocations the Captial budget is not able to meet the committed liabilities of the modernisation; leave alone further modernisation. Defence Acquisition Committee sanctions huge capital budget projects only on paper. Due to inadequate allocation fo defence budget, all these are shelved. Be it know that the Indian Army does not even have a trustworthy assault Rifles. About 75000 are now being procured from US. In Amethi, another Close Quarter Rifle AK 203 is slated to be manufactured, which the PM recently inaugurated it.
