National security has significantly metamorphed since the times of the formation of nation-states. Earlier it evolved around securing national interest by the preservation of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and internal stability from external forces. Now it has grown to add various other dimensions like human security.

Today, while the global security is under threat as the world faces an unprecedented challenge in the form of a “faceless enemy “– the virus, other threats also loom. For one, trade has been weaponised making it a critical component of national security.

• How would India respond to the challenges posed by the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine or in a possible face-off between US and China in the future?
