The pharmaceutical industry today is dealing with one of the most serious threats to the integrity of its supply chain – drug counterfeiting. A wide range of spurious drugs has been discovered in the recent past, and the incidence is increasing. These fake drug products range from placebo starch pills to products containing anything from cement powder and harmful substances, to the wrong quantity of an active ingredient. There is confirmatory evidence to show that these fake drugs can cause serious and even fatal harm if consumed.
